HEITZMAN REC CENTER

2023

When we were approached to paint the Heitzman Recreation Center in 2023, we knew it was going to be an absolute beast of a project. As a vital community hub in Philadelphia's Harrowgate/Kensington neighborhood, the building was undergoing massive, multi-million dollar city renovations. We wanted our public artwork to act as a celebratory wrapper for that transformation. To pull it off, we treated the entire 8,000-square-foot brick facility like the "jewel of the neighborhood". Painting in the blistering June heat—often starting at 5:00 AM to survive the sun—we completely covered the exterior of the building in a joyful, massive wave of geometric energy that breathes fresh life into the community's shared spaces.
